The following is concerned with the Rays functioning
through the angles of the personality as shown by the natal horoscope,
and has nothing to do with one's Soul Ray.
Traditionally there are three zodiac signs allotted
to each of the four elements.

The corresponding Rays for each zodiac sign reflect
the quality of the element because they function as one third
of an elemental angle. To understand how the elements work through
the horoscope in conjunction with the Rays is to understand how
the Soul Ray works with the consciousness energising (or trapped
in) one's persona angles.
Fire signs channel the 1st and 3rd Rays through Aries,
Leo and Sagittarius
Earth signs channel the 2nd and 7th Rays through Taurus, Virgo
and Capricorn
Air signs channel the 3rd and 5th Rays through Gemini, Libra
and Aquarius
Water signs channel the 4th and 6th Rays through Cancer, Scorpio
and Pisces.
Traditionally each of the zodiac signs attributed
to an element has one of three qualities - Cardinal, Fixed or
Mutable.
Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn)
relate to the First Primary Ray or Will
Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) relate to the
Second Primary Ray or Consciousness
Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces) relate
to the Third Primary Ray or Form.
The grouping of 4 signs of a single quality are referred
to as the Mutable, Fixed and Cardinal Crosses. Four elements,
with three different qualities for each one, gives rise to our
twelve zodiac signs arranged around the horoscope circle in a
strictly ordered sequence.

Air signs channel the 3rd and 5th Rays through Gemini,
Libra and Aquarius

MUTABLE - GEMINI 3RD RAY
Water signs channel the 4th and 6th Rays through
Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces
WATER = PERVADING
CARDINAL - CANCER 4TH RAY;
FIXED - SCORPIO 6TH RAY;
MUTABLE - PISCES 6TH RAY
The above can be used to estimate the Rays working
through the personality angles of the horoscope. Each zodiac sign
will be energized by the dynamic planetary angle that either occupies
each sign natally or is passing through it. The planets do not
relate directly to the Rays, except in their similarity to the
zodiac signs they traditionally "rule", but work with
the Ray energy of the zodiac signs they occupy in the following
manner -
SUN ~ The stimulation of Ray energy directed by the
Personality towards increasing conscious awareness, the best
example being through Leo, using the First Ray.
MOON ~ The regulation of conscious Ray energy to
produce rhythmic form, as in Cancer, using the Fourth Ray.
MERCURY ~ The connection of Ray energies, for example
between the First and Third Primaries by utilising the Second
Ray of Virgo, or the connection of different areas allowing
Third Ray energy to pass between them, as in Gemini.
VENUS ~ The attraction of Ray energies. The Venus
angles will attract energy to them, either specifically and
personally through Taurus, using the Second Ray, or generally
and impersonally through Libra, using the Fifth Ray.
MARS ~ Directed Ray energy. The angles associated
with Mars will direct energy in the area signified by those
angles, specifically and personally through Aries, using the
First Ray, or in response to external stimulation through
Scorpio, using the Sixth Ray.
JUPITER ~ The expansive use of Ray energies in development
and progressive channels, as in Sagittarius, using the Third
Ray, or in Pisces using the Sixth Ray.
SATURN ~ The establishment of Ray energy channels,
as in Capricorn, using the Seventh Ray, or in Aquarius, using
the Fifth Ray. Also, as the Lord of Karma, it will function
with Third Primary energy.
URANUS ~ Functions ideally with Third Primary energy
through the redistribution of angles using resonance. It is
because this is a lateral rather than linear process that
the results appear sudden and chaotic, because the planet's
energy does not follow sequential linear time. It also responds
to Fifth Ray energy through Aquarius.
NEPTUNE ~ Functions ideally with Second Primary energy,
but we notice only its mystical qualities because with our
limited perceptions we are unable to see this as a normal
attribute of consciousness. It also responds to Sixth Ray
energy through Pisces.
PLUTO ~ Functions ideally with First Primary energy,
and the same comments apply as in Uranus and Neptune. It also
responds to Sixth Ray energy through Scorpio, and Seventh
Ray energy generally.
Fine tuning according to aspect angles is the final
part of the process, keeping in mind the holistic view of the
entire horoscope.
Harmonic aspects have a simple numeric relationship
with the Seven Rays -
CONJUNCTIONS are first harmonic aspects and their
influences are First Ray;
OPPOSITIONS are second harmonic aspects and their influences
are Second Ray;
TRINES are third harmonic aspects and their influences are
Third Ray;
SQUARES are fourth harmonic aspects and their influences are
Fourth Ray;
QUINTILES are fifth harmonic aspects and their influences
are Fifth Ray;
SEXTILES are sixth harmonic aspects and their influences are
Sixth Ray;
SEPTILES are seventh harmonic aspects and their influences
are Seventh Ray.
Another point to note is that at present Humanity
on the Fixed Cross is influenced by the following Rays - 1st (Leo),
2nd (Taurus), 5th (Aquarius), and 6th (Scorpio). These will eventually
be superceded by the Rays working through the Cardinal Cross,
1st (Aries), 7th (Capricorn), 5th (Libra) and 4th (Cancer).
Humans are Second Primary creatures of consciousness,
so the Fixed signs are used on the Fixed Cross to symbolise Humanity.
However, in terms of Humanity's evolutionary journey,
we are soon destined to ascend FROM the Fixed Cross (1st, 5th,
2nd and 6th Rays) TO the Cardinal Cross (1st, 5th, 4th and 7th
Rays) and develop our alignment with Divine Will. The Rays of
the Fixed Cross relate to the solar plexus centre and will therefore
be phased out and replaced with the Rays of the Cardinal Cross
functioning through the heart centre.
The importance lies in the elements of the zodiac
signs and Rays listed above because each element carries the quality
of the three Primaries and their corresponding Rays to form complete
angles consisting of Intention (1st Primary), Consciousness (2nd
Primary) and Substance (3rd Primary). Taken together the three signs
of one element unify their Ray qualities and become a singular
complete angle, representing everything in one's reality related
to that element. So it is merely a shift in perspective to realise
the following in connection with the transition from the Fixed
Cross to Cardinal Cross --
The 2nd Rays of Earth (Virgo and Taurus) will learn
to work with the 7th Ray (Capricorn) as a composite angle.
The 3rd Ray of Fire (Sagittarius) will learn to work with
the 1st Ray (Aries and Leo) as a composite angle.
The 3rd Ray of Air (Gemini) will learn to work the 5th Ray
(Libra and Aquarius) as a composite angle.
The 6th Rays of Water (Scorpio and Pisces) will learn to work
with the 4th Ray (Cancer) as a composite angle.
From this we can surmise that moving from one Cross
of Quality to another, as an act of cosmic initiation, gives priority
to different evolutionary energies. Therefore the movement of
Humanity from the Fixed Cross to the Cardinal Cross will involve
the following movement of Fixed signs to Cardinal signs within
each element and its composite angle -
FIRE = 1st Ray Leo to 1st Ray Aries (from territorial
ruler to leader of people)
EARTH = 2nd Ray Taurus to 7th Ray Capricorn (from religion
to magic)
AIR = 5th Ray Aquarius to 5th Ray Libra (balance between inner
knowledge or intuition and its outer manifestation as practical
knowledge)
WATER = 6th Ray Scorpio to 4th Ray Cancer (from external idealism
to recognition of inner group connectedness)
It is not only Humanity involved in this time of transformation
but the whole of creation. The Elementals of Fire, Earth, Air
and Water, and the Devas who work these energies into manifestation
- all are subject to this change. Let us approach this change
with an open mind and do our part wisely by bringing peace, trust
and love into the grand equation by working in harmony with our
heart centres. And let us expel all notions of fear by recognising
them as manifestations of solar plexus polarity.
